What is ectropion repair?
Entropion is a condition where the lower eyelid turns inwards, causing the eyelashes and skin to rub against the surface of the eye. This can lead to discomfort, redness, watering, sensitivity to light, and even damage to the cornea if left untreated. It is commonly related to ageing, scarring, previous surgery, or chronic inflammation.
Entropion repair is a surgical procedure designed to restore the eyelid to its natural position, relieving irritation and protecting the eye.
At Genesis Clinic, our expert oculoplastic surgeons offer safe and effective treatment tailored to each individual case.

FAQ?
At Genesis Clinic, we prioritise patient safety and provide clear guidance and support throughout your recovery.
What type of anaesthesia is needed?

The procedure is usually performed under local anaesthesia. Sedation or general anaesthesia can be used if necessary. This will be discussed and planned during your consultation.
What does the surgery involve?

The exact surgical technique depends on the cause of the entropion. Most commonly, the surgeon will: Tighten the eyelid and the lower lid retractor muscles to reposition the eyelid margin. If scarring is involved, additional steps may be required to release the affected tissue and restore a normal eyelid contour. In some cases, grafts or spacers may be used if there is significant tissue shortage or inward pulling from previous surgery, trauma or other pathology. The procedure is delicate and highly customised. Sutures are usually dissolvable, and antibiotic ointment is applied to aid healing.
What is the recovery period?

Entropion repair is a day-case procedure, and you’ll be able to go home the same day. Swelling, mild bruising, and temporary discomfort are expected but generally resolve within 1–2 weeks. Eye lubrication, cold compresses, and gentle cleaning will support healing. Most patients can resume light activities in a few days and return to work within a week.
Can it be combined with other procedures?
Yes. Entropion repair is often combined with eyelid lesion removal, or blepharoplasty, particularly in complex or age-related cases. Our surgeons will evaluate your full eye and facial anatomy to recommend the most effective treatment approach.
Should I take any precautions before the surgery?
You should avoid blood-thinning medications, including aspirin and anti-inflammatories, for 1–2 weeks before surgery if it is safe to do so. This will be confirmed by your prescribing doctor and discussed during your consultation.
How long do the results last?
When performed by an experienced oculoplastic surgeon, entropion repair typically offers permanent results. The eyelid is restored to a natural position, reducing irritation and preventing further eye damage.
What are the risks of a entropion repair?
Although entropion surgery is generally safe and effective, potential risks include: Recurrence: Rare, but revision surgery can be performed if needed. Scarring: Minimal and well-concealed in most cases. Overcorrection (ectropion): Uncommon and correctable. Infection or bleeding: Rare and manageable. Temporary watering or irritation: Common during recovery and managed with lubricants.
