About

Ms. Francesca Kontea is a highly experienced Registered Clinical Dietitian & Nutritionist, licensed in both the United Kingdom and Greece. She is a member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) and the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Ms Kontea entered the field of Nutrition in 2009 undertaking her BSc (Hons) in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Surrey, one of the UK’s leading centers for Nutritional Sciences, where she achieved first-class marks for her dissertation on the effects of Vitamin D intake on blood pressure - part of the prestigious D2-D3 study by Prof Susan Lanham-New.

During her training, she completed clinical placements across several NHS hospitals including Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital (East Kent), Frimley Park Hospital (Surrey) and Bexhill & Rother Primary Care Trust (East Kent). She gained extensive experience providing dietetic care in inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, obesity programmes, and rehabilitation settings.

Ms. Kontea has worked with a wide range of medical conditions including:
• Cardiovascular disease – hypertension, dyslipidaemia, post-myocardial infarction care
• Diabetes – Τpe 1, Τype 2, gestational diabetes, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome
• Cancer and oncology nutrition – including enteral and parenteral feeding
• Neurological conditions – multiple sclerosis, dementia, Parkinson’s disease
• Respiratory health – COPD, aspiration, dysphagia
• Mental health support – depression, anxiety, refeeding syndrome
• Gastrointestinal conditions – IBS, Crohn’s disease, constipation, reflux, gastritis
• Women’s health – PCOS, fertility, pregnancy, and menopause support
• Weight management and obesity clinics – individual and group sessions

Her role within multidisciplinary teams has included working alongside doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, speech and language therapists, and physiotherapists to deliver truly holistic patient care.

In addition to her NHS training, Ms. Kontea has delivered lectures and presentations on cardiac rehabilitation, nutritional care in hospital settings, and the role of diet in health and disease. She has also completed specialist training in FODMAP diets for IBS, oncology nutrition, ESPEN guidelines, and medico-legal aspects of patient care.

She holds additional certifications including:
• Food Safety Certificate (Society of Food Hygiene and Technology, UK)
• Basic Feeding Skills Certificate (Treloar Trust, UK)
Building on her academic foundation, Ms. Kontea went on to complete a Master of Science (MSc) in Nutritional Medicine at the University of Surrey, specializing in:

• Obesity, Diabetes, and Eating Disorders
• Nutritional Aspects of Pregnancy, Infancy and Childhood
• Diet the Gut, Food allergy and Intolerance

Collaborating again with top leading researchers Professor Susan Lanham-New and Dr Andrea Darling she presented her dissertation on 25-hydroxyvitamin D status and its predictors in Greek and Cypriot subsets of the UK biobank Cohort at the Nutrition Society Winter Conference 2022/2023 in London.

Since returning to Greece in 2013 Ms. Kontea took over ownership of Andersons Health and Beauty Centre, a family business founded in 1983. Since then, she has maintained a thriving private clinical practice, providing evidence-based nutrition care to patients with diverse medical needs, as well as healthy individuals seeking to optimize wellbeing. She collaborates closely with doctors, psychologists, physiotherapists, speech therapists and personal trainers, ensuring integrated and effective care. She has provided long distance dietetic assessment and treatment for patients all over the world including Switzerland, Holland, Germany, New York, Boston, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Turkey, Italy, Spain, as well as Great Britain including Scotland.

Ms. Kontea is also co-founder of Sportzone 95 a private gym and sport center specializing in training and optimizing health and performance for individuals of various clinical backgrounds, athletes and sports enthusiasts.

She also works as a corporate nutrition consultant, writing scientific articles, delivering workplace wellness talks, and advising on nutrition for stress reduction, performance, and leadership.

Nutrition in Life stages

Our aim is to address the different nutritional needs encountered thought-out life to maximise health, minimise deficiencies during adolescence, adulthood, pregnancy breast feeding, and for the elderly.


Diabetes

In collaboration with our patients, we design our nutritional plans to control blood glucose levels and to reduce diabetes related long term health risks. Different strategies are implemented when treating insulin resistance, Diabetes Type 1 or 2 and Gestational Diabetes. When weight loss is recommended as part of an individual’s care plan together with the use of medications such as Mounjaro or Ozempic, emphasis is given to maximize fat tissue reduction and ensure muscle maintenance.
