Patch Testing

Patch testing is a reliable method to identify allergens causing contact dermatitis or other skin reactions. At Genesis Clinic, the process takes one week and involves three visits. During the first visit, small amounts of allergens are applied to your back using hypoallergenic patches that stay in place for 48 hours. On the second visit, the patches are removed, and an initial reaction is checked. A final visit on Day 5 assesses delayed reactions, and results are discussed with your dermatologist. Patch testing can identify up to 100 allergens and is particularly effective for diagnosing allergies caused by substances like fragrances, metals, or preservatives. Mild redness or itching during testing is normal and helps pinpoint specific triggers for your condition.

Can Patch Testing Help with Chronic Skin Conditions?

Yes! Patch testing is an invaluable tool for diagnosing and managing chronic skin conditions like eczema or persistent dermatitis. These conditions are often triggered by allergens in everyday products such as cosmetics, cleaning supplies, or even clothing materials. By identifying the specific substances causing irritation, patch testing allows for targeted treatment plans that address the root cause rather than just alleviating symptoms temporarily. At Genesis Clinic, we believe in empowering our patients with knowledge so they can take control of their skin health and enjoy long-term relief from discomfort.

Choose our clinic and experience expert care, personalised attention, and swift recovery from our award-winning surgical team.

    1. Preparation: Small patches containing allergens are applied to your back or arm.

    2. Application Period: The patches remain in place for 48 hours without getting wet.

    3. Observation: After removal, the skin is examined for redness, swelling, or blisters. A follow-up evaluation 72–96 hours later identifies delayed reactions.

  • At Genesis Clinic, patch testing is a simple process completed over one week with three visits:

    1. Day 1 (First Visit):Patches with allergens are applied to your back and secured.
Keep the area dry and avoid strenuous activity for 48 hours.

    2. Day 3 (Second Visit):Patches are removed, and an initial reaction is checked.

    3. Day 5 (Third Visit):A final check is done for delayed reactions, and results are discussed.

  • Patch testing is generally safe but may cause mild temporary irritation at the test site. Rarely, it can trigger a stronger allergic reaction requiring medical attention.

Why you should consider monitoring your skin?

Neglecting regular skin checks can lead to missed early signs of serious conditions like melanoma. Skin cancer detected at an advanced stage is harder to treat and may result in more invasive procedures. By prioritising mole mapping or patch testing at Genesis Clinic, you take a proactive step towards long-term health and well-being.
