Private Ultrasound Scan

An ultrasound can be used to help diagnose conditions, for guidance during a variety of procedures, such as biopsies and monitor the progress of unborn babies. As soundwaves are used rather than radiation, an ultrasound scan is believed to be a safe procedure.
This type of scan is carried out using a small handheld device called an ultrasound probe, which gives off high-frequency sound waves. These sound waves (which can't be heard) bounce off different parts of the body to create a moving image which is displayed on a monitor while the scan is carried out.
Are There Any Side Effects of Ultrasound Imaging?
Ultrasound imaging is generally safe with minimal side effects. Potential considerations include slight tissue heating, minimal risk of cavitation, no proven long-term negative effects, and recommended use only for medical purposes.

Ultrasound Pricing
The cost of your ultrasound depends on your individual circumstances and the type of ultrasound you have. At the time of your appointment your consultant will discuss all options for scans with you and ensure all your questions are answered.

Ultrasound uses the pulse-echo principle. A transducer containing piezoelectric crystals emits sound waves into the body. These waves bounce off tissues and return to the transducer, which converts them into electrical signals. These signals are then processed to create real-time images on a monitor
The length of an ultrasound exam varies depending on the type and complexity of the scan:
Most ultrasound scans last between 15 and 45 minutes.
A typical abdominal ultrasound takes about 20 minutes.
Some procedures may take longer if more detailed imaging is required.
Ultrasound is generally considered safe when used appropriately, but there are some potential considerations:
Tissue heating: Ultrasound waves can cause a slight increase in tissue temperature, though this is usually minimal.
Cavitation: In rare cases, ultrasound can produce small gas pockets in body fluids or tissues.
Fetal exposure: While no direct harm has been proven, there is ongoing research into potential effects on fetal development. The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine advocates for prudent use during pregnancy.
Mechanical effects: Non-thermal effects can occur due to the passage of ultrasound through tissue, which are monitored using the Mechanical Index on ultrasound machines.
It's important to note that these potential side effects are generally associated with prolonged exposure or improper use. When performed by trained professionals for medical purposes, ultrasound is considered safe with very low risks

Our Ultrasound Technology
An ultrasound is an non-invasive diagnostic technique, that is used across a wide range of medical specialties to investigate and detect any anomalies. Ultrasound technology can be used in:
Orthopaedics: Such as a musculoskeletal ultrasound used by sports and exercise specialists and orthopaedic consultants to assess and diagnose muscle tears/strains, nerves, and arthritisHepatology: Such as the Fibroscan® which measures how elastic or stiff your liver is, to assess scarring and damage
Gastroenterology: Such as an endoscopic ultrasound which is an internal scan that allows a consultant to examine the organs and structures in the chest and abdomen
Cardiac: Such as a doppler scan which is used to estimate the flow of blood through the blood vessels
Gynaecology: Such as as a transvaginal ultrasound which assesses your pelvis for signs of any underlying gynaecology conditions
Urology: Such as a renal ultrasound which helps check the size, shape and health of the bladder, kidneys and prostate
